Scotland Yard notes timing was set for devastating midair explosion

The bomb discovered on a UPS plane at a UK airport last month was timed to detonate over the eastern seaboard of the U.S., British police said Wednesday.

The bomb, which originated in Yemen, was found inside a printer toner cartridge on the aircraft at East Midlands Airport in central England.

"Forensic examination has indicated that if the device had activated it would have been at 10:30 hours BST (British Summer Time) on Friday, 29 October. If the device had not been removed from the aircraft the activation could have occurred over the eastern seaboard of the U.S.," Scotland Yard said in a statement.

A second bomb was discovered the same day in Dubai. Earlier reports indicated one of the bombs was defused only 17 minutes before it was set to explode.
