The United States Postal Service today announced that it will stop delivering mail on Saturdays, starting the week of Aug. 5., although it will continue to deliver packages on Saturdays.
USPS expects the new service delivery schedule to save about $2 billion annually, once the plan is fully implemented.
The board of governors recently directed USPS to accelerate cost-cutting reforms, following the agency’s record net loss of $15.9 billion in fiscal year 2012, ending Sept. 30, 2012.
