Amsterdam Airport Schiphol reported cargo traffic in the last quarter of 2012 was 380,284 metric tons, making it the best quarter in 2012.
In 2012, exports to Europe, including Russia, increased by 29 percent year-over-year, and exports to Latin America rose 8.9 percent. Imports from Europe jumped 57, percent and imports Africa inched up 1.8 percent.
These positive figures were set against continuing weakness in Asia and the U.S., Schiphol’s top two markets, which were both down 8 percent year-over-year.
Total freight movements in 2012 fell by 2.5 percent year-over-year. “The weak beginning to 2012 was the largest factor in the full year’s slight drop in tonnage,” said Enno Osinga, senior vice president of cargo, in a written statement.
