Manchester airport has won planning approval for a $160 million freight and logistics complex at the UK’s fourth largest cargo hub.
The complex, named the World Logistics Hub, would have 425,000 square feet of warehouse space in the 60 acres site.
The planned hub will boost the UK’s foreign trade, cut transit times and drive more efficient, sustainable supply chains, according to Manchester Airports Group, the owner of the airport located in northern England.
“We already have significant international interest in the scheme,” said MAG director John Atkins.
The planned freight hub “will create a sustainable commercial product of international significance, providing high quality logistics facilities linked to the existing airport freight area, with access to the global market place — along with 60 percent of all UK businesses and a consumer market of over 24 million with a two-hour drive time,” Atkins said.
MAG also owns East Midland airport, the UK’s third largest cargo hub after London Heathrow and London Stansted.
