IATA Urges Investment in Aviation Infrastructure for Latin America

The International Air Transport Association urged stakeholders in the Latin American and Caribbean region to work together for safer and more efficient air transportation at the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association Airline Leaders Conference in Panama on Nov. 15.

IATA joined ATLA, Airports Council International and the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization to sign a declaration calling on Latin American governments to better support the development of regional aviation infrastructure in line with global standards.

Tony Tyler, IATA’s director general and CEO, encouraged the region’s leadership to participate in Checkpoint of the Future, a security initiative scheduled for implementation in 2014. He also reiterated the industry’s support for the European Union decision to delay plans to include international aviation in its emissions trading scheme.
