Asia Airfreight Terminal, an air cargo terminal based at the Hong Kong International Airport, reported that tonnage throughput in November was 69,150 metric tons (about 76,225 tons), rising 12 percent from November 2011.
In November, the terminal handled 49,887 metric tons of export cargo, up 13 percent year-over-year; and 18,869 metric tons of import cargo, increasing 9 percent from last year. Transshipment cargo volume was 395 metric tons, down 11 percent compared with the same month in 2011.
From January to November, total export throughput was 451,302 metric tons, increasing 3 percent from the same period last year; and import throughput was 194,055 metric tons, rising 2 percent from last year. Year-to-date transshipment cargo volume plummeted 45 percent to 5,458 metric tons.
“In November, driven by the launch of a number of new high tech consumer products, we saw an uptick demand in the export to North America and Europe, and import from Southwest Pacific,” said Kenneth Yeung, AAT’s general manager of corporate development. Overall annual performance should be slightly better than expected, he added.
