Despite a dip in cargo movements to and from Europe and South Asia, Singapore’s Changi Airport saw freight volumes remain stable last month.
The South East Asia hub, the world’s 11th largest by volume in 2011, saw air cargo movements decrease 1.8% year-over-year to 163,000 tonnes in March, but up from 143,900 tonnes in February.
Managers said cargo shipments to and from the southwestern Pacific and Southeast Asia increased during March, offsetting some of the losses on European lanes.
443,900 tonnes of cargo passed through Changi in the first quarter, an increase of 0.6% compared to Q1 2011.
