Cargo volume was steady at Singapore’s Changi Airport in June, but the arrival of a new carrier could boost cargoes in the coming months.
The world’s 11th largest airport by tonnage in 2011 saw volume increase by 0.1 percent year-over-year to 153,300 tonnes (168,300 tons). The monthly total was the highest recorded at the Southeast Asia hub since March.
Earlier this month Yangtze River Express started operations at Changi. The Chinese all-cargo carrier will operate eight-weekly services using 65-tonne A332F aircraft connecting Shanghai Pudong to Singapore with stopovers in Bangkok and Chongqing.
