Japan’s All Nippon Airways Co. saw international cargo volume rise for the first time in three months in December on a year-over-year basis, increasing 2.2 percent.
The carrier’s rival Japan Airlines reported the second straight month of volume growth in December, climbing 3.4 percent.
The volume of cargo ANA carried on its international routes in the first nine months of fiscal 2011, which started in April, rose 2.7 percent from the same period of 2010.
ANA’s domestic cargo volume fell for the second straight month in December on a year-over-year basis, edging down 0.5 percent. The carrier’s domestic cargo volume in the April-December period was up 0.9 percent from the same period of 2010.
JAL’s international cargo volume in the first nine months of fiscal 2011 fell 47.8 percent from a year earlier. JAL’s domestic cargo volume declined for 18 months in a row in December on a year-over-year basis, dropping 6.5 percent.
JAL’s domestic cargo volume in the April-December period was down 16.1 percent from a year earlier.
