Amsterdam Schiphol airport boosted net income in 2011 by 15.1 percent to $260 million from $226 million a year ago, but Europe’s third-largest air cargo hub warned capacity constraints could slow growth.
Revenue rose 8.3 percent to $1.7 billion and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization were 7 percent higher at $686 million. Cargo traffic grew 0.8 percent to 1.524 million metric tons, with volume growing in the first five months of the year before shrinking by 7.2 percent in the following seven months.
Schiphol risks being overtaken by close rival London Heathrow in 2012 because of the continuing sharp decline in European imports from the Far East, which account for about 40 percent of its total tonnage. Passenger numbers jumped 10 percent year-over-year to a record 49.8 million.
