Cargo Volume Dives at Singapore's Changi Airport

Cargo volume through Singapore Changi Airport nose-dived in October, extending a disappointing year for the world’s 11^th-largest cargo airport by tonnage.

Volumes in the month fell 8 percent year-over-year, to 150,000 metric tons. They were also down from September’s 153,700 tons.

Changi handled 1.5 million tons of cargo in the first 10 months of the year, down 2.4 percent from a year earlier.

Changi, however, welcomed several new services last month, including the launch of SilkAir’s thrice-weekly services connecting Singapore and Visakhapatnam, India, and the return of Shenzhen Airlines’ service between Singapore and Shenzhen.

Lufthansa Cargo also commenced a twice-weekly freighter service linking Singapore, Almaty, Kazakhstan, and Frankfurt using an 89-ton MD-11F aircraft.
