Singapore Airlines Cargo on Friday launched its first weekly freighter service to South America: a flight to Brazil via Hong Kong and Dallas-Fort Worth.
The Boeing 747-400 service to Sao Paulo’ Viracopos-Campinas Airport will stop in Dallas-Fort Worth, Brussels and Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on the return route. The new service complements belly capacity on Singapore Airlines’ thrice-weekly passenger flights between Singapore, Barcelona and Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport.
“This new freighter service demonstrates our confidence in the growth potential of the Brazilian market, and extends our network coverage to over 70 cities in more than 30 countries,” said Tan Tiow Kor, SIA Cargo’s senior vice president sales and marketing.
The launch of the new service comes after SIA Cargo and China Cargo Airlines launched a joint freighter service between Singapore and Shanghai in late June. In addition to allowing the carriers to tap into each other’s hubs, the pact is expected to improve SIA Cargo’s access to domestic China, and CCA will be able to better tap its partner’s network in Middle East, Africa, Australia and Latin America.
The two carriers will alternate the deployment of MD-11Fs and B-744Fs on the lane. SIA Cargo owns a 16 percent equity interest in Shanghai-based CCA.
