Singapore Airlines Cargo and China Cargo Airlines have signed an agreement to operate joint freighter services between Singapore and Shanghai.
Effective June 26, the two carriers will alternate the deployment of MD11F s and B744Fs on the lane.
SIA Cargo owns a 16 percent equity interest in Shanghai-based China Cargo Airlines. The new joint service is part of wider cooperation between the airlines, including more integrated ground handling at the carriers' respective hubs at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport where both airlines are making efforts to improve transshipment times.
Zhu Yimin, president of China Cargo Airlines, said the joint freighter services would enable the two carriers to tap into each other’s network through their hubs at Shanghai and Singapore.
“There will be more direct access to destinations in domestic China on China Cargo’s network while we will be able to tap on Singapore Airlines Cargo’s network in the Middle East, Africa, Australia and Latin America, thereby providing a more comprehensive and extensive network for customers of both airlines,” he said.
