Lufthansa Cargo Doubles Detroit Flights, Adds China Services

Lufthansa Cargo is adding three new destinations in China and ramping up its recently launched freighter service to Detroit in the summer flight schedule beginning on March 25.

Chongqing will be served by four weekly MD-11 freighter flights from Frankfurt, and Shenyang and Qingdao will benefit from belly hold cargo capacity on new passenger flights.

The frequency of the Frankfurt-Detroit service launched in January will be doubled to twice-weekly connections.

The South America network will be expanded with the addition of twice-weekly MD-11 flights from Frankfurt to Montevideo.

The recently discontinued freighter service to Kolkata will return with a once-weekly direct flight between Frankfurt and the Indian city.

“We have selectively extended our route network and brought new and attractive growth markets into the timetable,” said Lufthansa’s board member, product and sales, Andreas Otto.

“We are expanding our presence in China, the world’s biggest air freight market, and now laying on freighter connections to a total of six Chinese destinations.”

All freighter flights from Germany will be operated from Frankfurt. The flights to North America and Asia, which were relocated to Cologne/Bonn following a night flight ban at Lufthansa’s global hub in late October, will also depart from Frankfurt.
