Japan’s All Nippon Airways Co. (ANA) said that its international cargo volume grew for the fifth consecutive month in June on a year-on-year basis, rising 1.4 percent to 42,579 tons. But the year-on-year pace of growth slowed from 7.1 percent in May.
The volume of cargo ANA carried on its international routes in the first quarter of fiscal 2012, which started on April 1, totaled 131,108 tons, up 3.3 percent from a year earlier.
ANA’s domestic cargo volume fell for the first time in two months in June on a year-on-year basis, declining 6.0 percent to 36,351 tons. The carrier’s domestic cargo volume in the April-June quarter amounted to 110,582 tons, down 1.1 percent from the same three-month period last year.
Meanwhile, rival Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) also said that its international cargo volume grew for the fifth successive month in June on a year-on-year basis, rising 9.2 percent to 20,877 tons. The year-on-year pace of increase quickened from 4.3 percent in May.
The volume of cargo JAL carried on its international routes in the first quarter of fiscal 2012 totaled 61,295 tons, up 5.9 percent from a year earlier.
JAL’s domestic cargo volume rose for the third straight month in June on a year-on-year basis, increasing 8.6 percent to 30,056 tons. The year-on-year pace of growth was slightly slower than the 10.2 percent level seen in May. JAL’s domestic cargo volume had declined for 21 months in a row until March on a year-on-year basis.
The carrier’s domestic cargo volume in the April-June quarter amounted to 92,186 tons, up 7.3 percent from the same three-month period last year.
ANA and JAL both release monthly cargo, as well as passenger, figures without giving any analysis.
