Air cargo overcapacity remains an issue out of China despite recent new product launches, according to Lufthansa Cargo.
A spokesman told JOC that while the shipments of products produced by companies such as Samsung and Apple had provided a boost, “it would be too early to speak about a real pick-up in demand…over-capacity remains an issue.”
However, he was optimistic about the year ahead and said the company would expand its network into interior areas of China.
“After a very challenging 2011, demand in China has been stabilized and we do expect solid development this year,” he said.
“After having shifted capacities from Asia to the North Atlantic last year we will open new freighter stations in China in the summer schedule, and connect Frankfurt with Chongqing and Shenyang for the first time with freighters.”
