Etihad Cargo's January Tonnage Hit Record High

Etihad Cargo reported tonnage in January was 32,613 metric tons, rising 27 percent from 25,600 metric tons in January 2012.

The gain was primarily driven by increased demand into and out of China and India, said Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways’ chief strategy and planning officer, in a written statement. The company’s forecasts point to continued strong demand in key exporting and importing markets such as China, India, Southeast Asia and Europe, he added.

The division of Etihad Airways also reported annual tonnage growth of 19 percent for the full year of 2012, as well as a 14 percent capacity increase in available tonnage kilometers.

Etihad Cargo plans to take delivery of three additional freighters in 2013 and 2014.
