Freight volumes at Asia-Pacific airports grew in May for the second consecutive month, latest figures from Airports Council International show.
Following marginal gains made in April, volumes rose 1.3 percent year-over-year in May. Negative figures had dominated the first three months of the year. For the first five months of 2012, regional volumes were still 1.5 percent lower than the same period of 2011, ACI said.
Air freight traffic at Middle Eastern airports continued to grow at a steady pace, recording a year-over-year increase of 2 percent in May and 3.4 percent for the five-month period.
The region’s top five airports by volume in May were Hong Kong, which handled more than 333,000 metric tons of freight, Shanghai Pudong, with 241,000 metric tons, followed by Seoul Incheon, Dubai, and Tokyo Narita.
