The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines’ preliminary traffic figures for November 2012 showed that international air cargo demand, measured in freight metric ton kilometers, was 0.9 percent higher than in November 2011, a slight increase on the weaker trend in 2012.
Combined with a 1.9 percent decline in offered freight capacity, the industry association also reported that the average international air cargo load factor was 1.8 percentage points higher at 67.7 percent in November.
“The air cargo market has had another disappointing year, with international freight traffic down a cumulative 3.6 percent on last year’s levels, reflecting weak demand for Asian exports to the major developed markets, particularly Europe,” said Andrew Herdman, AAPA’s director general, in a written statement.
