Japan’s All Nippon Airways Co. (ANA) said that its international cargo volume soared 24.5 percent in February from the same month of last year to 42,470 tons. The sharp rise followed a year-on-year decline of 10.5 percent in January.
The volume of cargo ANA carried on its international routes in the first 11 months of fiscal 2011, which started on April 1, 2011, totaled 464,603 tons, up 3.1 percent from the same period of the previous fiscal year.
ANA’s domestic cargo volume rose for the first time in four months in February on a year-on-year basis, growing a healthy 8.8 percent to 37,081 tons. The carrier’s domestic cargo volume in the April-February period amounted to 438,323 tons, up 1.1 percent from a year earlier.
Meanwhile, ANA’s struggling domestic rival Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) said that its international cargo volume surged 14.1 percent in February from a year earlier to 19,678 tons. The robust growth followed a year-on-year drop of 3.1 percent in January.
JAL’s international cargo volume in the first 11 months of fiscal 2011 totaled 215,222 tons, down a whopping 42.7 percent from a year earlier.
JAL’s domestic cargo volume declined for 20 months in a row in February on a year-on-year basis, dropping 1.7 percent to 28,455 tons. JAL’s domestic cargo volume in the April-February period amounted to 348,359 tons, down 14.1 percent from a year earlier.
ANA and JAL both release monthly cargo, as well as passenger, figures without giving any analysis.
