AMR Corp., parent company of American Airlines and US Airways, has received a request for additional information from the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the proposed merger of the two airlines.
A DOJ Second Request is a standard part of the regulatory process, AMR said in a written statement. It extends the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, as amended, during which the parties may not close the transaction until 30 days after the airlines have substantially complied with the Second Request.
American Airlines and US Airways expect to respond promptly to the Second Request, AMR said. The airlines anticipate the combination to be completed in the third quarter of 2013.
