International Cargo Volumes Soar for ANA, JAL

Japan’s All Nippon Airways Co. (ANA) said that its international cargo volume grew for the eighth consecutive month in September on a year-on-year basis, surging 11.6 percent to 47,246 tons.

The volume of cargo ANA carried on its international routes in the first half of fiscal 2012, which started on April 1, totaled 265,120 tons, up 6.2 percent from the same six-month period last year.

ANA’s domestic cargo volume fell for the fourth straight month in September on a year-on-year basis, dropping 4.7 percent to 39,393 tons. The carrier’s domestic cargo volume in the April-September period amounted to 230,576 tons, down 2.3 percent from a year earlier.

Meanwhile, rival Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) said that its international cargo volume grew for the eighth successive month in September on a year-on-year basis, jumping 12.9 percent to 21,090 tons.

The volume of cargo JAL carried on its international routes in the first half of the current fiscal year totaled 123,181 tons, up 6.4 percent from the same six-month period last year.

JAL’s domestic cargo volume rose for the sixth month in a row in September on a year-on-year basis, increasing 2.7 percent to 33,904 tons. The carrier’s domestic cargo volume in the April-September period amounted to 196,147 tons, up 5.7 percent from a year earlier.

ANA and JAL both release monthly cargo, as well as passenger, figures without giving any analysis.
