AirBridge Cargo Airlines is defying the broad cutback in Asia-focused air freight capacity with new service between Europe and Chengdu in Western China.
The Russian airline announced the three-times-weekly 747-400 freighter will operate to the capital of Sichuan province alongside ABC’s existing service between Zhengzhou and Moscow and Amsterdam that launched in September 2010.
ABC said the service is aimed at time and security-sensitive high-tech exports from Chengdu and imports of high-end consumer products from Europe.
The Russian airline, which also operates services between Europe and Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing, said it is expanding its coverage to inland Chinese regions which are catching up with the developed coastal areas.
