AA Cargo Launches Temperature-Controlled Service

American Airlines Cargo Division launched an express temperature-controlled service on Sept. 1 following a successful trial in the early summer.

ExpediteTC provides shipment at specific temperature ranges monitored during transit by AA Cargo personnel, who maintain dry ice and batteries if needed. Shipments receive specialized handling on departure and arrival. The airline offers a 100 percent flown-as-booked guarantee, in addition to the specialized handling, monitoring and tracking.

"When you launch a premium service, you need to be confident that you are delivering exactly what is required to meet customer expectations," said Dave Brooks, president of AA Cargo. "That is why we invested a significant amount of time in the engineering of our procedures, automation and training to provide our customers with high-value perishables a reliable, proven service."

The service uses three types of container from manufacturer Envirotainer. The customer determines the internal temperature within a range of minus four degrees Fahrenheit to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, levels required by shippers of pharmaceuticals and other high-value perishables.
